Bright Space - Birmingham, Herefordshire and Worcestershire
Bright Space aims to champion young people's creativity and to support and widen opportunities for their involvement in cultural activity. We do this by partnering young people with the very best creative professionals so they can develop a variety of skills and experiences.
We work with local authorities and national agencies to see how we can best engage with young people to consider the broader social and family contexts within which young people grow up. We use the findings from our programmes to promote public debate and to influence policy so as to effect change.
We believe that creativity is not a skill bound within the arts, but a wider ability to question, make connections and take an innovative and imaginative approach to problem solving. These are skills demanded by today's employers. We want young people to lead a role in shaping their own learning and to play active leadership in school and community life.
One of our current core activities is running the Creative Partnerships programme in Birmingham, Herefordshire and Worcestershire. This builds on five years' practice, previously pioneered by Creative Partnerships Birmingham.
We also have several specific areas of interest, which include:
- Youth development - This work aims to offer and explore youth consultation, careers in the creative industries (career pathways) and designing cultural activities for young people by young people
- Family engagement - The Bright Space Family Panel will invite families to engage with new cultural experiences with their children out of school
- Networking and continued professional development (CPD) - Our Creative Encounters programme is a series of networking and CPD events for teachers and creative professionals
