Speakgreen - Lincolnshire schools eco project launch
11 Nov 2010
Schools across the county have been invited to join charities The Mighty Creatives and Cape Farewell Education in making a global climate change awareness project local.
The Speakgreen project, will help young people to explore the human demand on the earth’s ecosystem, focusing on the effects of climate change in Lincolnshire and in particular on the Lincolnshire coast.
Pupils and teachers from both primary and secondary schools, who have expressed an interest in the project, will come together on November 17 at Gibraltar Point Nature Reserve in Skegness, for an introduction to Speakgreen, and to help decide the future course of the project.
The schools will be working in partnerships with The Mighty Creatives, who are the young people’s development agency for the East Midlands, and Cape Farewell Education, who will work to instigate a cultural response to climate change and to set-up self-motivated groups of environmental entrepreneurs (Green Teams) in a linked network of schools.
The Green Teams will investigate aspects of climate change in the region, initiating creative and scientific projects, building links to local artists, scientists and journalists as well as suggesting and defining areas of inquiry for a headline expedition or event during the late summer term of 2011 and/or 2012.
Colin Izod, from Cape Farewell Education, said, "The primary goal of speakgreen is to provide opportunities for leadership and participation in issues of climate change among young people – to help them understand that there are so many ways to get involved and express opinions about climate change.
"We want children to face the future with imagination and confidence, with the knowledge that their humanity, intelligence and creativity will make a difference!"
The project is being funded via The Mighty Creatives’ Creative Partnerships programme. For more information visit Cape Farewell and Speakgreen through the links to the right.
