Vision Creatively
Year 2 Pupils at Thameside Infants School in Grays have left a lasting legacy for future pupils thanks to a Royal Opera House Creative Partnerships Project, exploring the schools core values. Pupils worked with their teachers and creative practitioner Harold Raitt to create a seven minute film and special large display panel for their reception area featuring a plasma screen. The film which was entirely devised by the pupils covers the whole school experience and includes sections such as - learning by watching, learning by making mistakes, sharing, being creative, team working and aiming high, as well as more holistic areas such as cultural awareness, caring, healthy eating, environmental awareness and the importance of good attendance. The teachers involved also took part in one-to-one training days with Harold to learn film-making skills and explore opportunities for using film more confidently as a teaching and learning tool in class.
"The children enjoyed working with Harold and felt confident enough to make suggestions and develop these ideas with their acting out of scenes. They were thrilled to see the final display and said that this showed everyone what Thameside Infant School was really like. I feel that the entrance display is a true reflection of the values and beliefs of Thameside and makes them accessible for all. It is always exciting to have Creative Partners involved in school work as they bring a twinkle to everyone's eyes!"
