Dance City Creative Partnerships – Creative Practitioners triumph at Lottery Awards
9 Sep 2010
Arpeggio Films and Beacon Hill Business & Enterprise College are currently celebrating their latest victory after being voted the UK's Best Arts Project at the National Lottery Awards 2010, as featured on “The National Lottery’s Big Night” on BBC 1 on Saturday 4 September 2010.
The Beacon Hill Film Project offers mentoring and support to a group of young people with learning disabilities to make their own films - from script to screen - funded by the Lottery through the UK Film Council’s First Light initiative.
Their work has previously won the National Young Filmmakers Award, a First Light Award for Best Original Music and has received support from across the world of film, including famous critic Barry Norman, film composer David Arnold, actors Toby Jones and Jason Isaacs.
The National Lottery Awards is the annual search to find the UK’s favourite Lottery-funded projects. The results were determined entirely by public votes and the Beacon Hill Film Project beat hundreds of projects from across the UK to win the prestigious title.
"It is an absolute honour to have won this award and for all the young people involved in the project to receive national recognition for their hard work and dedication."
"The awards have given us a great opportunity to high light how we’ve put our (lottery) funding to good use and show anyone who has ever played the lottery, the difference their money makes. The work of these incredibly talented young filmmakers speaks for itself."
Will Sadler, project manager

Arpeggio Films worked with Dance City Creative Partnerships and Ian Ramsey School earlier in the year to support them in their Change School programme.
Using the ‘Building Schools for the Future’ programme as a stimulus, staff and pupils explored how cross curricula independent learning skills could be developed creatively across departments.
Several films were created as part of an ongoing consultation over plans for the new school building.
Pupils have learnt invaluable skills through working closely with Arpeggio Films. They can now use film making equipment and editing software confidently and have a wide knowledge about the film making process - from ideas development through to the final edit and presentations.
They will continue to demonstrate their learning and instruct others on how to use the equipment.
